  • Juicy and tender every time – The steam and slow cooking method lock in moisture.
  • Hands-off cooking – Once you set it, you can leave it for hours without worry.
  • Perfect for smaller gatherings – A crock pot turkey is ideal when you don’t need an oven-roasted presentation with crispy skin.
  • Stress-free holidays – Free up your oven for sides, pies, and casseroles.

Yes, you lose the crispy golden skin, but you gain melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that’s worth the trade-off.

Notes

Pro Cooking Tips
Want crispy skin? After slow cooking, carefully transfer the turkey to a roasting pan and broil for 5–10 minutes.
Use the juices – Save the liquid for gravy or turkey soup.
Size matters – Make sure the bird fits your slow cooker before you start thawing. A 10–12 lb turkey usually works best.

Variations to Try

  • Herb butter turkey – Mix rosemary, thyme, and garlic into softened butter and spread under the turkey skin before cooking.
  • Citrus twist – Add orange or lemon slices inside the cavity for a bright, fresh flavor.
  • Spicy kick – Add paprika, cayenne, or chili flakes for a little heat.

Storing and Reheating

  • Refrigerator – Store leftover turkey in airtight containers for up to 4 days.
  • Freezer – Shred the turkey and freeze in freezer bags for up to 3 months. Perfect for soups, tacos, and casseroles later.
  • Reheating – Add a splash of broth when reheating in the microwave or oven to keep the turkey moist.

FAQ – Crock Pot Turkey

Can I cook a frozen turkey in the crock pot?
No. Always thaw your turkey completely before slow cooking for food safety reasons.

Do I need to brine the turkey first?
Not required, but you can brine overnight for added flavor. Just reduce the salt in the recipe if you do.

What size crock pot should I use?
A 7-quart or larger crock pot works best for a whole turkey.

Can I cook turkey breast instead of a whole turkey?
Yes! Turkey breast works perfectly and often fits better in standard crock pots. Adjust cook time down to about 6 hours on HIGH.
